What is CPJE?
The California Practice Standards and Jurisprudence Examination, a computerized, multiple choice state licensure exam. There are 90 questions, of which 75 are graded. Candidates are given 2 hours to take the exam. A score of 75 is required to pass.
The CPJE is comprised of questions that:
- Demonstrate the candidate’s proficiency in patient communication skills.
- Examine aspects of contemporary standards of practice for pharmacists in California, including pharmacist care and the application of clinical knowledge to typical pharmacy practice situations.
- Evaluate a candidate’s knowledge of applicable state laws and regulations.
CPJE Resources
For CPJE, a good law review is essential. We recommend Fred Weissman’s A Guide to California Pharmacy Law which is available from the USC bookstore.
Use the self-assessment exam for the community and hospital PIC, available at the CA Pharmacy Board web site (http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/). This reviews many legal requirements that are important to know for the exam.
CPJE is 75% clinical; utilize a resource such as the RxPrep Course Book to review topics and chronic conditions that are most likely to appear on the exam.
