The American Pharmacists Association’s (AphA) 2009 Annual Meeting & Exposition drew over 6,000 attendees from across the country to the Henry P. Gonzalez Convention Center in downtown San Antonio, Texas from April 3-6. During the opening session, outgoing AphA President Timothy L. Tucker offered these comments regarding the role of the pharmacist profession in the current economic times: “As the nation looks to stimulate the ailing economy and revamp the way health care is provided today,
pharmacists can step up to offer part of the solution, provide broader services, enhance patient safety, and obtain greater recognition. The recent White House Forum on Health Reform was a wake-up call for the profession that we MUST BE HEARD and be AT THE TABLE. Since the last healthcare reform efforts in 1992, the profession has the documentation to show the value pharmacists provide and support our claim that WE HAVE SOLUTIONS.”
In the general sessions, RxPrep was again invited back to present an abbreviated version of the NAPLEX Board Review to a packed ballroom of 4th year pharmacy students. Over the course of two days in separate 4-hour sessions, Dr. Shapiro and Dr. Brown dissected sample patient cases with the class and broke down the associated practice questions. The review also covered test taking tips and discussed the best ways for students to prepare for the exam. We at RxPrep had a great time presenting to the class,
visiting with students and faculty, and wandering the exhibit hall (not to mention checking out the local attractions at the Alamo and the River Walk). We look forward to seeing new faces and making new friends at APhA 2010 next year in D.C.
