You’ve studied for the NAPLEX and now it is the day before the test. What should you do to best prepare yourself for the next day?

Get a good night’s sleep. If you have gone through a good review program, there is no need for cramming or panic. The best thing you can do is give yourself plenty of time to rest so you can be alert the next day. Don’t eat anything unusual and know what time you have to leave the next day, giving yourself plenty of time for traffic delays and to park.

Keep telling yourself that you are prepared. You have been going over the test questions for weeks now and you are prepared. If you went through the test preparation, you should feel confident that you have been well prepared.

Dress comfortably and eat before you go. You might be nervous, but you need to be able to focus and a rumbling stomach won’t help. Protein is always a good food choice before taking a test. This is not the day to try something new or “treat yourself” to something unusual. Save that for a celebration after the test.

Before you leave your house, check that you have exact directions, two forms of ID with a current picture AND a signature. Think driver’s license, passports, etc.
Plan to arrive at least, half an hour early. Usually the test starts half an hour after your scheduled test time. If you live in an area where the traffic is unpredictable, err on the side of caution. If you arrive late, you will forfeit your test fee.

Go to the restroom before you check in. Once you are seated, you may not get up unless you have the permission of the proctor. If you move, ask permission first. If you don’t, your test may be invalidated.
When you check in, you will be asked for your forms of ID. You will also be asked to read the rules and sign that you agree to follow the rules. Then you will have your fingerprint and picture taken.
After you get to your seat, the proctor will give you scratch paper and a pen. If for some reason they do not provide them, ask. The test is on the computer, but you may want to work some questions out on paper first.

You use the calculator on-screen so make sure you know how to use it before you get to the site. If you don’t like to use the online calculator, ask the proctor for a hand held calculator. If you need anything- a calculator, a pencil, to get up for any reason, raise your hand and wait for the proctor to come to you.

You have the option of a 10 minute break, but this time will NOT be deducted from your 4 hours and 15 minutes. If you think the short break will help you rest and refocus, take the break.

The key to passing is not only to study, but to use the most effective study guides so you won’t waste your time and money. Our RxPrep.com board review programs give you not only the knowledge to pass the test, but the confidence to know that you have been well prepared.

The NAPLEX is the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination. This test, given by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy is an essential step in getting your license as a pharmacist. This test can only be taken on a computer. There are 185 questions that you must take in 4 hours and 15 minutes. Which gives you an average of 1.4 minutes per question. This test is generally broken down into three parts- 54% pharmacotherapy, 35% dispensation, and 11% public health.

This is a multiple choice test and passing is not guaranteed. Some students take the test two, three, or more times in order to pass. If you want to pass this test, you must study. It is a content driven exam, devised and run to test your ability and knowledge of the areas mentioned above. So how do you pass? Study. Study. Study. But you want to study effectively. Study what? How much? Which areas should you focus on? This is where RxPrep can help. The NAPLEX is written by pharmacists not just people paid to assemble a test. We understand the test, we have taken it ourselves. We know the best way to prepare, our graduates who have passed the NAPLEX can tell you that. Our experts are board certified professionals.

A great way to study is our on-line self-paced program or one of our live programs (only in Spring). Both programs are very effective. The goal is to help you pass, and optimize your preparation time. We help you understand the test format, the types of questions asked and also the concepts and key knowledge points. This strategy has been effective helping student after student pass the NAPLEX on their first try. The NAPLEX asks situation based questions, so you need to understand these key concepts, not just memorize answers. For example, a question may be presented of a patient who has a condition and requires drug therapy. Read carefully. Scenarios change to include allergies, family histories, or other information that will affect which answer you choose. Attention to detail is a must for this exam. Seeing the wording of similar questions can provide you the essential skills you need to pass the test. If English is not your primary language, becoming familiar with the way the questions are asked is as important as knowing the correct answers to the questions. RxPrep offers a variety of live and online NAPLEX board review programs and study tools including an 1808 question quiz bank to help students effectively prepare for their licensure exam.
